Diabetes Blood Sugar Levels

Diabetes Mellitus is truly a severe disease that if not properly treated earlier it can bring other diabetes complications that can really affect the patients overall condition. Talking about diabetes we will have to talk about blood glucose levels. With that reason in mind, let’s discuss about diabetes blood sugar levels and what steps we can take to control it.

What causes diabetes and why it occurs?

Before we continue discuss about controlling diabetes glucose level, I think we need to understand how our body works and it correlations with diabetes. Everyday we eat, and some of the foods contain carbohydrate that will be converted into glucose inside our body. The pancreas then will produce a hormone called insulin to process the glucose from the foods we eat then distribute it to the entire body and produce the energy required by our body to function properly.

When the insulin cannot control and process the glucose intake, or the insulin production is too little (lack of insulin), or the daily sugar intake is too high that causes the insulin cannot process all of them, the blood sugar levels will increase. This is why diabetes occurs. In simple words, diabetes occurs because our blood sugar level is higher then normal due to the lack of our body capabilities to process the sugar intake.

In many cases, diabetes is hereditary. Your risk of having diabetes is higher if there is a diabetes history on your family. However, especially with these days lifestyle, diabetes is not always a hereditary disease. If you live an unhealthy lifestyle with bad diet, consuming a lot of junk foods and soft drinks, and lack of physical activities, you risk yourself to suffer diabetes. In fact, bad diet for long time and lack of exercises is one of the most common causes of diabetes.

Types of Diabetes

I have discussed about it on this Diabetes Types article. However, basically, there are three diabetes types known. They are type 1 diabetes, type 2 diabetes, and gestational diabetes that only occur among pregnant women.

Diabetes Symptoms

Just like on other diseases, if we can understand and recognize the symptoms of diabetes earlier we can take proper steps to cure or even preventing diabetes to occur. Most diabetics don’t recognize the symptoms so most of them even don’t know if they have diabetes. That is probably the reason why most people are shocked when the doctor told them that they are diagnosed to have diabetes.

I should say that it is sometime not easy to recognize the symptoms of diabetes since they are common things on our life. You need to pay close attention on your body condition each day to be able to recognize these symptoms. Basically, if you often feel numb on your feet and thumbs, if you notice a more frequent urination, if you often feel extreme thirsty and hunger, if you often found yourself suffer fatigue, then it is the time for you to do a check up on your blood sugar levels to make sure whether you have diabetes or not.

As I said, those symptoms are something that is common in our daily life. However, you can still use them as an early warning signs of diabetes so you can make some required precautions. If you find your glucose level is higher then the normal range, you have to control it because it can make serious damages into our internal organs.

Controlling Diabetes Blood Sugar Levels

Your daily diet is the first thing you need to pay attention to. Avoid eating those junk foods and sugar rich soft drinks.
